Kamya & Prashanth | An Intimate Wedding in Kerala

For Prashanth, coming back to Kerala to get married felt a little like coming home. He was born here and moved to Mumbai when he was quite young, so when he and Kamya started thinking about where they wanted to get married, Kerala was always somewhere in the conversation.

They debated between Kerala, Delhi and Mumbai for a while. But when they both found themselves back in Kerala, something just felt right. They knew they wanted to celebrate their wedding here.

And so, surrounded by the calm backwaters of Kumarakom, Kamya and Prashanth began three days of celebrations in Kerala.

It was an intimate wedding, with their closest people around them. Nothing felt too elaborate or carefully staged. The celebrations moved naturally from one moment to the next ; from the laughter of the mehendi to the rituals, the haldi, the music and dancing in the evening, and finally the South Indian wedding ceremony the following morning.

There was a simplicity to the entire celebration that we loved.

Kamya and Prashanth's story itself seems to have come together through a series of coincidences and unexpected events. As Kamya puts it, there were so many little things that happened along the way that eventually brought the two of them together. Looking back, it almost feels like all those small moments were quietly leading them towards each other.

Perhaps that is also why what Kamya says about love feels so fitting for them. For her, love is about choosing the same person every day. Not because everything is always perfect, but because you choose to stay through the difficult days as much as the good ones. It is about accepting a person as they are and choosing them, completely.

Their wedding felt much the same..honest, uncomplicated and centred around what mattered.

Kamya comes from a Punjabi family, but the wedding did not try to bring together two different sets of rituals simply for the sake of it. Instead, they embraced the South Indian traditions that were meaningful to them. The rituals became a part of the celebration without taking away from its relaxed, intimate feeling.

And then there was Kerala itself.

The backwaters, the greenery and the quiet beauty of the surroundings gave the celebrations a setting that needed very little added to it. It all came together naturally.. the warmth of the people, the simplicity of the celebrations and the beauty of being in Kerala.

For us, weddings like this are always special to photograph. When there is enough room for people to be themselves, the little moments naturally find their way into the photographs.. the laughter between friends, a family member watching from the side, a quiet glance between the couple or a moment shared between two people without anyone noticing.

Kamya and Prashanth's wedding had plenty of those moments. And that is perhaps what made the three days feel so personal.
