Shreya & Sarthak | A Punjabi-Maharashtrian Wedding Celebration
Some weddings feel like a celebration of two people. Sarthak and Shreya’s felt like a celebration of everything that brought two families together.
Over three days, their wedding brought together two cultures, two sets of traditions, and two different ways of celebrating. Sarthak’s Punjabi roots met Shreya’s Maharashtrian upbringing, and rather than one culture taking centre stage, both found their own place in the celebrations.
It began with Simant Pujan, a traditional Maharashtrian ceremony where the bride’s family welcomes and honours the groom and his family. From there, things quickly became louder, brighter and a lot more playful. The Haldi was full of colour and laughter, followed by games, music and an energetic crowd that was more than happy to participate. With the emcee keeping everyone involved, the afternoon felt less like a planned wedding function and more like a big gathering of family and friends simply having a great time together.
The Punjabi wedding brought its own energy and traditions, before the celebrations came back to Maharashtrian customs for the final wedding ceremony. And just when it felt like the three days had already seen it all, the Sangeet brought everyone together once again. There was music, dancing, performances and plenty of moments where everyone simply forgot about the schedule and enjoyed the evening to the fullest.
What stayed with us wasn’t just the contrast between the two cultures. It was how naturally they came together. Different rituals, different customs and different ways of celebrating, but the same people standing around them — laughing, cheering, dancing and becoming one family along the way.
Maybe that is what made Sarthak and Shreya’s wedding so special. It wasn’t about bringing two cultures together. It was about celebrating both of them, together.
